The newly launched NYU Institute for Shanghai Studies (ISS, based in Shanghai) will host a two-day interdisciplinary workshop on October 14-15, 2011, at East China Normal University in Shanghai. Its aim is to investigate, through a series of case studies as well as theoretical interventions, the role of memory, obsolescence and layering in Shanghai’s contemporaneity.
Presenters include: Andrew Field (NYU Shanghai), Duncan Hewitt (NYU Shanghai), Justin O’Connor (Queensland University of Technology), James Farrer (Sophia University, Japan), Jianhua Chen (The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology), Shaoyi Sun (NYU Shanghai/Shanghai University), Iris Ma (UCLA), Francesca Tarocco (NYU Shanghai), and Anna Greenspan (NYU Shanghai).
